WHAT CAN I DO IF I AM NEARLY 40 OR HEADING PAST IT?

A common question I am asked by many women is what can I do now that I am over 40 to maintain my vitality? Here is a very brief outline of the advice I would give.

TCM believes we should live in a way that does not create stress in our bodies like too many late nights, eating on the run and overindulgence in alcohol, etc…. it stresses the importance of maintaining and nourishing our qi instead of depleting it as when it is depleted this is when we run into problems to include perimenopausal issues, Bad PMT, Bad menopause etc…. We need nourishment of the kidneys and the kidney Jing in particular but this is the age that it is in natural decline anyway. (Jing can be likened to the root of life!), So, TCM maintains that maintaining it and nourishing it is the essential key to good health and the real secret to longevity. To really maintain and foster our essential qi, things to start including in our lives are relaxation and enough sleep.  Regular treatments of acupuncture to prevent rapid age decline with the help of herbs has a very noticeable impact on the wellbeing of the 40 plus year old. Including exercise like T’ai Chi, Qigong and Yoga are also considered good at enhancing and has preventative effects on our our health especially on cardiac, metabolism, inflammatory and bone health to mention a few.

Another tip is avoid a high acidic diet and including alkaline-rich foods such as fresh fruit and green vegetables like broccoli, parsley, green beans, courgettes, lettuce, celery and in for this season of winter Kale and green cabbage. Hope this helps!!
